Education & Certifications:
B.S. in French Language & Literature, minor in Linguistics from Binghamton University. American Red Cross certified Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED, and Pool Operator. With over 15 years in Aquatics Management. Also, I served as President of the NY Junior Chamber (JCI) in 2022.
Beginner and Intermediate swim lessons for children and adults. With a background in teaching adaptive swim lessons for children and adults with special needs.
I also coach the rowing team for Binghamton University in the early mornings. When I was in college, I was the coxswain on the team. This is the crewmember who sits stationary in the boat facing the bow. While the coxswain’s main job is to steer the shell with a tiny rudder, they also call the race strategy, and help motivate the crew!
Why did you go into Aquatics instruction?
I have always loved being in and around pools and lakes. I became a lifeguard when I was 16 and have since worked in aquatics. Soon after, I started teaching swim lessons and water fitness classes and have been teaching both for over 15 years! I have a passion for helping others and swimming. I am happy I can combine these passions by teaching others to be safe in and around the water and learn a skill they can enjoy for life. I enjoy helping people overcome their fears, find confidence, and achieve their goals!
Patricia’s Success Stories
I scheduled swim lessons with Patty for my 9-year-old this summer. We did eight lessons, and at the beginning, my daughter did not know how to swim at all and was very uncomfortable in the water in general. By the end of the lessons, she loved being in the water and felt confident. Patty is super patient but also knows when a swimmer can take the next step, making it a comfortable transition for them. I’d recommend Patty to anyone looking for lessons!
Swimming through the water is a great pleasure as I’ve always been away from water. I realized my dream of swimming after joining the center. I joined intending to learn swimming, although not as a professional, but to face my fear of water and be comfortable in water. Under the supervision and expertise of my swim instructor, Miss Patricia, I put efforts towards my goal, and she patiently and wholeheartedly helped me during the process. I’ve been taking classes since May, and finally, in October, I can say that I can swim. Not like a professional or a fully trained one, but at least I conquered my fear of the water. I will take more classes next summer with a new goal!
Patty is an amazing swim instructor! She lets the child get comfortable at their own pace while encouraging them to push themselves further, all while having fun.
Patty’s patience, kindness, and knowledge help us grow and feel more comfortable in the water. She taught us a lot of valuable swimming skills during the first set of sessions and we had a lot of fun. Patty is an excellent swimming instructor! We are excited to start the second round of lessons with Patty soon.
