Fun Fact:
I was awarded the Jim Van Deusen Cup of Central Region by the New York State Assembly in 2023 for my Lifeguard training and commitment to the highest New York State Water Safety standards and practices.
Why did you go into Aquatics instruction?
I started teaching swim lessons at 13 as a Water Safety Instructor Assistant at Greene High School. I almost drowned in that same pool when I was a young child. Back then, a lifeguard saved me from an unsafe situation I had put myself in, not knowing the dangers of what I was doing. I saw the importance of learning to swim as a life skill and not fearing the water after a bad experience.
Working with children at school and teaching them to be safe in general brought this opportunity back into focus, as it ties together three of the things I value most: working with children, being safe, and swimming! I love every minute of it. Now, I educate children and adults (parents) on how to be safe in and around the water and encourage them to have fun with safety-first habits to live by.
